If you believe that the Bible is the true and inalterable word of God, than it should be enough. However, if you believe the Bible is a series of books based on legend and myth, developed over the course of centuries and whose contents was selected by a man who was a notable apostate of the early christian church in the second century then you might need some other reading material.

God Says Scripture is Enough
by Perry infrom the 2013 new world translation 2 tim.
all scripture is inspired of god and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness, so that the man of god may be fully competent, completely equipped for every good work.. .
as jw's we must have read that scripture a thousand times.

Speculation: Female Ministerial Servants coming soon
by Londo111 inive no source for this, just personal speculation.. * there is a good case to be made that there were female deacons (ministerial servants) in the bible.. * there is a lack of qualified brothers for basic assignments such as microphones, accounts, literature.
in some cases, elders have had to do double duty because of a lack of ministerial servants or qualified brothers.. * women outnumber men in the organization.. * there is supposedly a surprising change coming "down the pipe".. perhaps the only difference between male and female ministerial servants is that women will still not be allowed to teach..

Would JWs Really Drink The Kool Aid?
by minimus inif push came to shove and it was a showdown for loyalty to the organization or not following whatever decrees coming heir way, what percentage would remain loyal to the organization?
.

Separation of Powers
I thought about this question and changed my response several times. At first, I thought no way, the majority would NOT drink the literal kool aid because they organization has said they would "never" ask the brothers to do something that would endanger them.... Then, I realized that the organization has already asked their followers to do things that endanger their lives....aka...blood doctrine. So...Yes, I believe that more than you can imagine would drink the kool-aid, I think more would reject it based on flavor than outcome...

CAPTION COMPETITION !
by Focus innathan h. knorr was the third president of the watchtower society.
he was by mentality a clerk, with a fondness for instructing young male brooklyn bethel inductees as to what was the "right handling" of their genitalia.
it goes without saying he was a liar, a fraud, a hypocrite, a swindler, a conman and a thoroughly evil bastard, and let f.franz perpetrate the great 1975 hoax to boost membership, murdering the hopes of millions of elderly victims while so doing.. joseph f. "judge for 4 days" rutherford was the second president of the watchtower society.

Knorr and "right handling"? Give me a break. You can accuse him of a lot of stuff, but that is utter nonsense and makes the rest of your assertions lack credibility. Knorr was "the organizer." He challenged Rutherford on every front he was involved in. He clandestinely published a Bible with the Society's presses without the approval of Rutherford and this single step was what set his presidency in motion. As for letting Franz loose, let's just say that Knorr was no spiritual guru....Franz was the oracle and everyone from Russel to Jaracz knew it. He had free rein and nobody could stop him until he was found babbling to himself walking down the hallways in 25 with his pendleton like some old-school cholo.
As for the cane and hat. It was the fashion at the time, Covington has one too. It was also a means for self-defense in lieu of a club like the attendants used at Cedar Point....Advertise, Advertise, Advertise!

Something Big is Coming...
by notsurewheretogo inthe annual meeting of the governing body of jehovah's witnesses will be in october 2014.. .. in november 2013, just after the last one they published this now famous statement in the 15th of november 2013 watchtower page 16 paragraph 17 says:.
"at that time, the lifesaving direction that we receive from jehovahs organization may not appear practical from a human standpoint.
all of us must be ready to obey any instructions we may receive, whether these appear sound from a strategic or human standpoint or not.".

I agree that the winds of change are coming....JW.ORG is SOOOO amazing. It is like no other website EVER! Thousands of people ask for studies a month, millions of publications are downloaded. It is a veritable gold mine of donation revenue! Praise JEEBUS!
On a serious note.
"the third heaven" was an adjustment that lends itself to further clarification in a BIG way. The fact that "paradise" is mentioned in conjunction with the 3rd heaven and the fact that the ORG decided this needed to be studied and clarified my well present the opportunity to describe the "paradise" in line with Revelation and the great crowd being "before" the throne.
As for service and door to door ending? Never gonna happen. It serves to humiliate the sheep and a sheep that is humiliated is easily led.

Seriously considering stepping down as Elder
by fader77 ini have been an elder for 6 years.
it's been the last 2 years or so that i've really seen the hypocrisy, but the ability to know the shenanigans of the society through the body of elders letters has kind of kept me in there.
i'm to the point now that i can't stand the hatred and bitterness that the body of elders has towards myself and my whole family.

Separation of Powers
Just a thought
Sometimes part of our dilemma, a huge part, is that we live a double life. We are all hypocrites to some degree, but those are usually in the little things that we can cast aside as insignificant. For the big things, however, like acting like a Witness when deep inside you are not, well, those things are different. They plague you, like an itch you simply can't scratch. And, they eat at you, gnawing subconsciously at your self-esteem and respect. To be an elder while inside you are an apostate (which anyone on this site could readily be considered), has got to be one of the most difficult to ignore. It's like cheating on your wife with her best friend and seeing her best friend all the time, and knowing, yeah, knowing that someday she will find out or you will tell her. The agony will make you crazy, and this, unfortunately, may cause you to do something more drastic than simply stepping down. It may well move you to publicly denounce yourself and position causing irrevocable damage, not to mention the collateral damage your family will endure.
Take it from someone who stepped down some time ago, knowing the inside scoop was simply not enough reason to remain serving. It may be for you...only you can decide.

Rules on blood also apply to our pets
by Splash inwhile researching something else, i came across these two comments from a wt on how we should view the blood issue, when it comes to our pets.. *** w64 2/15 p. 127 questions from readers ***.
"would it be a violation of the scriptures for a christian to permit a veterinarian to give blood transfusions to a pet?
by all means, to do so would be a violation of the scriptures.".

shepherding call
by DesirousOfChange inyou don't say why you are inactive.. if you can control your tongue and not blurt out anything you have learned about ttatt, then perhaps no harm in agreeing to a visit if you feel the need to be polite and cooperative.
no doubt, they will inquire as to why you are inactive.. don't you know it's the truth(tm)?.
don't you know the end(tm) is close?.

Separation of Powers
Sorry, can't make it.
Decline the offer. To have both of them visiting your congregation means that you guys are probably the host for an upcoming Circuit Assembly. If you were once an elder, then I would expect that they will guilt bomb you into getting your act together. If you were never serving, then they probably asked the BOA for a list of those would might "benefit" from a shepherding call. If your wife and kid have no issue with your current situation, then I would suggest you tell them you can't make it. You can probably defray any backlash by approaching both of them at the meeting and thanking them personally.
As Doc has mentioned above, if you have issues with the ORG, these type of visits can go haywire real quick.

Awake 1973 banned Witnesses playing Chess..why?
by Witness 007 inare all articles from jehovahs thoughts or do personal biased views poison the watchtower articles?
imagine a brother who hates chess observing in discust two bethelites playing chess...would it be right to use jehovahs "spiritual food" to push your own warped view....yes!!.
awake 1973 3/22 p.12 chess- "...the spirit of compitition between players can lead to unplesant circumstances...most families can keep comfrontations to the chess board...but for some the tension lingers long past checkmate...chess has been a game of war since its origin...a play substitute for the art of war...there is a danger of "stirring up compitition with one another" even developing hostility towards one another, something the bible warns christians to avoid..what effect does playing chess have apoun one?

Separation of Powers
The "Chess" position of the Society is a clear example of changes things on a whim. It depends on who is running the show. It's OK....It's NOT OK.
It goes back to that question about the 10 commandments...did God make them up? or did God discover them?
If he made them up...then they can change at his discretion (and of course, they did).
If he discovered them...then he is not omniscient (all-knowing)
The Society plays both....they make up rules and then, on a whim, change them.
They "discover" truth, but their truth keeps changing.
